TOUR DE FRANCE 1935 print. The sombre faces of these 1935 Tour de France cyclists show frustration at having been held up at a freight train crossing while the race leader was extending his lead on the other side of the tracks.
The French riders were Antonin Magne (left) who won the Tour in 1931 and 1934 and amassed 10 Tour stage wins, and Charles Pelissier (right) who won 16 stages of the Tour including eight stages in the 1930 edition - still a record, shared with Eddy Merckx (1970, 1974) and Freddy Maertens (1976). Pélissier also finished in second place seven times.
The fugitive on the other side of the train during that first stage (Paris to Lille) was the Belgian Romain Maes, who extended his lead to win on the day. Maes spent the entire race in the leader's yellow jersey, or "maillot jaune", and was the eventual winner with a margin of 17' 52". It was his only Tour win.

We supply professionally framed prints ready to hang with a choice of flat black, white or natural oak frames 30mm in width. We choose to use Shinkolite 3mm cast acrylic in our frames - it is lightweight, virtually unbreakable, has greater optical clarity than glass and provides your print with long term protection from harmful UV rays greatly reducing the risk of fading.
Our canvas is 400gsm artist quality, real polyester/cotton canvas with a 2:1 weave structure for highest print quality results. The water-resistant coating allows a wide colour gamut and extremely high colour densities. The canvas can be framed or stretched by your local framer.
Our images are professionally scanned and retouched from original sources in our collection of vintage journals, magazines, posters, newspapers and other ephemera from the 1850s to the 1970s.
Our production and design staff are experts in image restoration and have many years' experience in the design and print industry.
Our prints and canvas artworks are available in a variety of sizes from petite and gorgeous to large and impressive.
Sizes listed are actual image size.
