The 1972 Hardie-Ferodo 500 motor race at Bathurst was seen as the start of the Allan Moffat-Peter Brock rivalry and Classic Lines Artist Mike Harbar has captured the pair sparring on Mount Panorama's famous Con Rod Straight.

Moffat and his long-time friend and rival (and later co-driver) Brock are the only drivers to have won The Great Race at Bathurst in both its 500-mile and 1000-kilometre formats.

The 1972 edition was the first year that rain had significantly affected the race and it was won by Peter Brock driving a Holden Dealer Team prepared Holden Torana, the first of Brock's record nine victories. Brock finished a lap ahead of Queensland racer John French driving a Ford XY Falcon GTHO Phase III. Pole sitter and winner of the previous two Bathurst 500's, Allan Moffat, had a race he would rather forget. After dicing for the lead with Brock in the early laps, Moffat spun his Works Phase III Falcon on top of The Mountain in the wet conditions. He finished the race in 9th place, 8 laps down on Brock.

English born and bred and now living on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula in Australia, Mike Harbar has a passion and natural talent for illustrating cars, boats and planes. Trained as an industrial designer, Mike understands the basic engineering principals to the artistic flowing lines. This is very apparent when you see the accuracy and the attention to detail he can achieve just by using his lead pencils and watercolour.

We are privileged to offer a large selection of Mike's works under license from the artist.

Prints are professionally printed on 230gsm acid-free, wood-free, pH-neutral, archival matte paper using premium archival pigment inks.

This design is available in the following formats:
• Unframed Print
• Framed Print (white, black, natural oak or dark oak timber)
• Stretched Canvas
• Un-stretched Canvas

  • Our protective watermark in the centre of the image will not appear on your print, we promise. It's only there to stop schmucks downloading and reproducing our restored images.
  • Within Australia we offer professionally framed prints ready to hang with a choice of sustainably-sourced timber frames in white, natural oak, dark oak or black.
  • Timber frames are 20mm wide on all sides.
  • Our framer uses Shinkolite 3mm cast acrylic rather than glass: it is lightweight, virtually unbreakable, has greater optical clarity than glass and provides your print with long term protection from harmful UV rays.
  • Please note we do not ship framed prints internationally.
  • We use premium archival 400gsm acid-free canvas made in the USA. It is a 70/30 cotton/polyester blend for maximum stability. Our printed canvases are coated with an Aquathane-UV finish providing additional strength and protection from the elements.
  • You can choose ready-to-hang stretched canvas or un-stretched canvas which can then be stretched by your framer of choice.
  • Please note our canvas art is available in the middle and second-largest sizes only.
  • We offer FREE shipping Australia-wide.
  • We offer an international shipping rate of AUD$25 (framed prints excluded).
  • Standard delivery for unframed prints and un-stretched canvas art is usually 7-10 business days within Australia and 15-20 business days internationally.
  • Please allow an additional 1-2 weeks plus delivery time for framed prints and stretched canvas orders.
